Jay is a writer and lawyer who covers courts, politics, and democracy.

Previously, Jay was a staff writer at GQ magazine, and a senior contributor to The Appeal. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, The San Francisco Chronicle, Slate, Defector, and more. He is currently Editor-in-Chief at Balls & Strikes, an outlet for progressive commentary on the legal system.

Previously, Jay practiced law at firms in Washington, D.C. and Seattle. He graduated from UC Berkeley and Harvard Law School, and is based in Seattle.
